Dateline: 11/17/06 San Antonio, Texas.
This is an historic day for our City and our State. On Nov. 17th in 1863,
Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. On this day in 1970, the first
moon vehicle rolled on the moon. Today, November 17th, 2006 goes down as a
day that will change the way we view San Antonio for years to come. The day
the first new 2007 Toyota Tundra rolled off the assembly line, as Private
and Public officials at all levels gathered today.
This is a huge event and will transform the Southside as we know it today.
Toyota and it's 21 ancillary businesses, brings with it the best kind of
economic development every city strives for...jobs. 4100 of them to date via
2000 with the Toyota Plant and 2100 with the support Companies. The $1.3
Billion investment made by this project, puts our City on the manufacturing
map like never before.
If you have not already done so, we encourage you to drive down and take a
look at the plant and surrounding area. It is amazing that out of that farm
land has emerged a huge economic success that will put us into a pre and
post Toyota era. The Governor, Rick Perry's closing remarks of "oh what a
feeling" from an old Toyota commercial says it all. Welcome again to the
entire Toyota Team Texas family.
